Irons Wins Billabong Pro!
After a one year sabbatical and a slow start to the 2010 season, past three-time ASP World Champion Andy Irons (HAW), 31, snapped back into top form at this year’s Billabong Pro Tahiti, taking out his 20th career elite event victory over Floridian C.J. Hobgood (USA), 31, to catapult the Hawaiian to No. 7 on the ASP World Title Rankings. The Hawaiian champion’s return to form shows that his potential for a run to the top is far from over.

Perrow and Kling, Back on Tour
ASP Dream Tour veteran Kieren Perrow (AUS), 33, and 2010 ASP PRIME series standout Gabe Kling (USA),30, will be joining the remaining 32 surfers left on the ASP World Title rankings as the official ASP wildcards selected by ASP wildcard committee directly following the finalization of the Top 32 during the Billabong Pro Tahiti. Perrow and Kling will be back in action at the upcoming Hurley Pro at Trestles and have earned the chance to claw back into the top of the ratings through Pipeline.

Bede Durbidge (AUS), 27, current ASP World No. 8, has survived the dreaded midyear cut, but before the Billabong Pro Tahiti kicked into gear, the Australian powerbroker took out the time to fill his fans in on his thoughts on the epic surf scored at the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay and what he’d been up to with all of the down time in Tahiti before the event kickoff. To wrap things up, Durbo chimes in on the monumental reduction unfolding and what it means to him.

Second Life: Tom Whitaker
Tom Whitaker (AUS), 30, a veteran of the elite ASP World Tour of eight years, will return to competition for the next several events as the first replacement surfer for injured Australian Joel Parkinson (AUS), 29. Whitaker, who has finished as high as 8th on the ASP World Tour (2006), narrowly missed the ASP’s midyear field reduction which culminated last week at the Billabong Pro Tahiti. However, with the injury of Parkinson, and Whitaker’s position as first replacement, the Sydney-sider will have an opportunity against the best in the world for the next several events.
