Nike US Open of Surfing
The 2012 Nike US Open of Surfing is underway and the beast of an event that hosts the final installment on the ASP Women’s WCT, a Men’s Prime and Men’s and Women’s Pro Junior divisions is bigger and better than ever. With almost all of the ASP Top 34 surfers in attendance and every global prodigy pounding on the door to join the elite ranks, the massive showdowns about to unfold in front of record breaking crowds in HB are guaranteed to provide plenty of action. The event runs until July 5, 2012.

Parko Takes Third in Molokai Paddle Race
Joel Parkinson has put in a remarkable effort to finish third place in the 16th annual Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard Championships in Hawaii. Parkinson, who is often touted as one of the fittest surfers on the ASP WCT, further proved his status as one of the world’s finest watermen where Parkinson and paddle teammate Wes Berg held their own with amazing endurance in Parkinson’s first appearance in the event.

INTERVIEW: Steph Gilmore, Back on Top
Stephanie Gilmore displayed a remarkable return to form this season to win her fifth ASP Women’s World Title one event shy of the culmination of the 2012 ASP Women’s WCT season. While many critics doubted Gilmore’s return to the top after a rocky 2011, Gilmore quickly answered back this year and maintained her dominant form throughout the season with unmatched authority. ESPN caught up with the Australian beauty to see how she’s feeling now that the ball is back in her court.
 


 
Buittendag Wins 6-Star Movistar Pro in Peru
South African talent Bianca Buitendag has taken out the ASP 6-Star Movistar Women’s Pro at the firing lefthander of Lobitos over Hawaiian Alana Blanchard. The South African has been on a rampage over the course of the 2012 season, finding huge success on the AS Pro Junior Series and now sits at No. 5 on the ASP Women’s World Ranking and within the qualification bubble for the 2013 ASP Women’s WCT entering the final European leg.


 
 
Lau Wins Billabong Pro Tahara
Oahu’s Ezekiel Lau has won the ASP 4-Star Billabong Pro Tahara in Tahara, Aichi, Japan over Indonesian surfer Hairil Anwar. The Hawaiian powerhouse has been deadly on the men’s ASP Star series despite his dedication to education and with his global success to date, Lau will be a serious threat on the international stage in the years to come.
