Happy New Year from ASP! 2010 is the year that came and went. We had triumph, we had tragedy, we had ground-breaking progression both in and out of the water. Steph Gilmore Assaulted On the evening of Monday, December 27th, reigning four-time ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 22, was viciously assaulted in a random act of violence near her Tweed Heads home. Gilmore suffered a broken wrist amongst other injuries and will be out of the water for six weeks. Despite the brutal attack, the Australian talent remains positive about her recovery although shaken from the assault. FULL REPORT: Billabong ASP WJC’s Ready for Launch The second and final stop on the 2010 ASP World Junior Tour is just around the corner, with the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships landing in Narrabeen from January 8 through 16, 2011 to crown this year’s men’s and women’s ASP World Junior Champions. With Australians Jack Freestone and Tyler Wright leading the series after their wins at the Oakley World Pro Junior in Bali, this year’s event will have the globe’s up-and-comers hungrier than ever to take out the prestigious ASP World Junior Crown. Meet the 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour With the allocation of the ASP Injury Wildcard going to Australian goofy-footer Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS), 24, the 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour roster has been finalized with next year’s elite field being comprised of the Top 10 finishers from the ASP Women’s Dream Tour, the Top 6 from the ASP World Ranking and the ASP Wildcard. This year’s list makes up one of the most exciting groups of female talent the sport has ever seen and Top 17 will surely take things to a new level on the women’s surfing stage in 2011. The versatile goofy-footer lived up to the hype, finishing No. 7 on the ASP World Title Rankings to earn the prestigious Rookie of the Year award and Australia’s Surfing Life Magazine put together a collage of photos to highlight Wright’s stellar season. SEE THE FULL PHOTO FEATURE: ASP World Ranking Points Finalized On the heels of the 2010 ASP World Tour culmination, the ASP Technical Committee have reassessed and re-evaluated the structure of the newly-instated ASP World Rankings system and made slight adjustments to reward performance gaps on the ASP PRIME and ASP Star Series.
