The 2011 ASP Dream Tour season opener, the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover, jumped into action on the opening day of the waiting period with defending event champion Taj Burrow, local favorites Fanning and Parko and 10-time ASP World Champ Kelly Slater dismantling their Round 1 heats before a recent flat spell forced competition off for a few days. Roxy Pro Gold Coast
The Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover, which runs in conjunction with the men’s Quiksilver Pro, completed Round 1 action directly following the men’s competition on the opening day of the waiting period and 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour Rookie Tyler Wright (AUS), 16, put an exclamation point on her opening heat by igniting the round’s top scores to relegate four-time ASP Women’s World Champ Steph Gilmore to Round 2. While the Roxy Pro is currently amidst its third lay day, the best female surfers on the planet will be back in action as soon as the swell cooperates.

ASP World Surfing Awards
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre welcomed the world’s best surfers last night for the ASP World Surfing Awards.The gala event witnessed the most notable names in sport trade their boardshorts and bikinis for tuxedos and dresses for an evening of live music, blue carpets, and some time to recognize the top performers of last year.

Flores Injured, withdraws from Quik Pro
Jeremy Flores was forced to officially withdraw from the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast after suffering a knee injury during a warm-up session prior to the start of the 2011 ASP World Tour season opener. According to event medical staff, the presumptive diagnosis is that Jeremy has suffered a Grade-2 medial ligament tear in his right knee. Fellow Frenchman Marc Lacomare, 20, winner of the Billabong ASP World Junior Title event in Narrabeen last month and Runner-Up in the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast Trials, replaced Flores in the main event.

Carissa Moore, 18, started her 2011 ASP Women’s World Tour campaign in sharp form by taking a commanding Round 1 victory on the opening day of competition at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover. Moore, who earned the 2010 ASP Women’s Rookie of the Year award while finishing her education, now has her sights set on the elite ASP Women’s World Title and ESPN.com caught up with the talented Hawaiian to see what she has in store for sophomore year among the Top 17.
