Time for Bells!
The second stop on the ASP World Title Race, the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach presented by Ford is just around the corner now, with the world’s best  surfers joining forces to take on Victoria’s iconic pointbreak from April 19 through 30, 2011 for the event’s historic 50th year anniversary. Will Slater ring his fourth bell in six years? Will Gilmore rebound and defend her Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach Title? We’ll find out soon enough!

Reynolds Withdraws from Rip Curl Pro
Dane Reynolds, a leading force in the world of progressive surfing and No. 4 on last year’s ASP World Title Rankings, suffered a knee injury prior to the Billabong Pipe Masters in December, forcing the Californian to opt for surgery. While rehabbing the injury, Reynolds was still out of commission for the season opening Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast and sources have just confirmed that he will also miss the upcoming Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach due to the lengthy recovery process.

Hobgood Wins ASP PRIME at Margaret River
American ASP World Tour veteran Damien Hobgood clinched his first major ASP victory for the first time since his win at the Billabong Pro Teahupoo in 2007 by grabbing the ASP PRIME Telstra Drug Aware Pro Margaret River over West Oz local Yadin Nicol last week. The impressive performance put on by the Floridian goofy-footer marks back-to-back podium finishes after ‘Damo’ finished fourth at the ASP 4-Star Vans Pier Classic in Huntington Beach and puts Hobgood at No. 10 on the men’s ASP World Rankings entering Bells.

Conlogue Takes Women’s Telstra Drug Aware Pro
ASP Women’s World Tour rookie Courtney Conlogue defeated fellow Californian Sage Erickson at the ASP 6-Star Telstra Drug Aware Pro last week to move the super-fit natural-footer to No. 1 on the ASP Women’s World Rankings. The massive win marks back-to-back podium appearances for America’s only female ASP Women’s World Tour competitor after Conlogue finished runner-up to Coco Ho at the Legendary Pacific Coast Pro earlier this year.

The Situation Room: Rankings Breakdown
With the completion of the ASP PRIME Telstra Drug Aware Pro and this year’s Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach holding a waiting period later on the calendar compared to 2010, there have currently been some massive shifts on the men’s ASP World Ranking, which now continually shifts as surfers hold results for exactly 12 months to the date. ASP Tour Manager Al Hunt shared his wisdom on the new system to explain the details of last week’s rankings shakeup.

Slater and Burrow Score Tavarua
Reigning 10-Time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater seems to have returned to the 2011 season with a newfound vigor. While clinching the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, his 46th career event victory, the iconic Floridian seemed more chipper than ever to be surfing heats. After nabbing the 2011 ASP World Tour season opener, Slater and current ASP World Title No. 2 Taj Burrow hopped a plane to Tavarua and reveled in the flawless lefthanders of Cloudbreak and Restaurants.
