Wilson Wins Quiksilver Pro Portugal
ASP World Title Series Rookie Julian Wilson earned his first victory of 2011 when he won the ASP PRIME Quiksilver Pro Portugal by defeating deadly Brazilian Gabriel Medina to skyrocket to No. 15 on the ASP World Rankings. The victory puts Wilson in excellent position to make the midyear cut for the back half of the ASP Dream Tour while Medina’s runner-up finish pushes him further up the standings to No. 18.

Stephanie Gilmore: Shattered Focus on ESPN
Stephanie Gilmore has had a rollercoaster of a year in 2011. After suffering from a tragic attack in December, the women’s surfing icon has battled to recover from the physical and emotional pain caused from the assault that unfolded in front of her Gold Coast home while trying to maintain her status as the major spokesperson for professional women’s surfing. Gilmore sat down with ESPN in an emotional interview for the first time since the incident to explain what her healing process has been like over the year.

Dane Reynolds is one of the most talked about surfers on the planet. The talented Californian has built a reputation for consistently detonating unpredictably raw maneuvers event-after-event and his approach has left many waiting patiently to watch his heats. ASP Stars Hit the Books
The life of a professional surfer may not be life you expected. Sure there’s sponsorship dollars (for some), trips to exotic waves in far off lands, an endless array of surfboards at your disposal, magazine photo shoots and celebrity status. But what happens when the spotlight fades, if you’re prematurely injured or if your curiosity reaches beyond surfing? Some surfers need a back-up plan. Some surfers go to University.

Mr. Price Pro Hosts Shaun Tomson
South African surfing legend and the nation’s only world surfing champion Shaun Tomson will return to Ballito in July to attend the ASP PRIME Mr. Price Pro Ballito. Tomson dominated the event when it was formerly known as the Gunston 500, taking home the trophy from 1973-1978 and will return to Ballito to reconnect with memories of his days in a singlet while sharing his knowledge of the area as an event commentator.
