G'day Fulton, How do you plan a round the world trip route? What destinations are must-sees? Some travelers are after an endless summer – chasing beach season around the world – while others are looking to hit the world's biggest, busiest, most cultural or the best architectural cities.
So how do you narrow down your route? - Priority #1: Your budget. Once you know how much money you have to work with, it makes it easier to plan your route. If you're looking to save, trying heading to one of the more budget friendly continents.
- Opt for a cheaper RTW ticket. While you could buy an 'epic' RTW ticket and hit Paris, Dubai, Sydney, and Rio, choosing one of the cheaper deals that focuses on just SE Asia or South America means you'll have several thousand more to spend on the rest of your trip.
- A few months ago we chatted about planning a themed RTW trip. Remember to keep your interests in mind while planning your route and not just adding "must see" destinations to your RTW.
- Write it out, or use the trip planner, adding all of the places you want to go. See a theme, trend, region? Narrow down your list by adding in leave/return dates, and then work forward/backward until you're out of time, and add the rest of those destinations to your 'Someday Travel' list.
- Remember, this isn't the last trip of your life! Relax, and consider this a world tour preview. You'll find more destinations to add to your someday list while you're on the road, and you'll find quite a few places you'll want to return to. So, you can't really go wrong with RTW itinerary planning.
