De Souza Wins in Rio
Fiery young Brazilian Adriano de Souza earned his second elite event win last week by defeating Taj Burrow with the support of a massive Brazilian crowd behind him to take out the Billabong Rio Pro at the beachbreak of Barra Da Tijuca. The win not only marks a pinnacle moment in his career, but sling-shots the De Souza to the No. 1 position on the ASP World Title Rankings after event No. 3 of 11 for the year.

Judges Break Down De Souza/Wright Quarterfinal
Adriano de Souza is our current ASP World No. 1. The young Brazilian stormed past Michel Bourez, Owen Wright, Bede Durbidge, and Taj Burrow, en route to his second elite tour victory at the Billabong Rio Pro last Friday. The final day was filled with a number of dramatic heats and finishes, perhaps none more so that the Quarterfinal match between De Souza and Wright. This Quarterfinal bout has become the central topic of subsequent discussion between media, fans and surfers, and the ASP International Judging Panel has been gracious enough to look back and provide their expert perspective on the heat.

Bring Back G Land?
We’ve just wrapped up the third event of the 2011 ASP World Title season in Rio de Janeiro, and the world’s best surfers will now embark on a nearly two-month mid-season break before their next stop in South Africa in mid-July. So, this begs the question, can the ASP feasibly approve another event to be slotted into this time period? Absolutely. And, a second question, is that a proper time period for another reefy lefthander – G-Land, perhaps? Absolutely.

PRIME Time: Saquarema!
With three ASP PRIME events done and dusted, the fourth event of 2011 will see a mass of the world’s best tackle some of the hungriest up-and-comers who are out to prove themselves on the world stage. The hub for the next PRIME event will be at Itauna in Saquarema, Brazil for the Saquarema Surf International and will see the Round of 96 hold a waiting period from May 24 through 29, 2011. The event includes top names such as current ASP World Title frontrunner Adriano de Souza, Jadson Andre, Julian Wilson and Josh Kerr amongst other top notch talent. Chill Pro Junior Meets West Oz
The race for the Australasia Pro Junior Title is heating up and the region’s finest are set to do battle for their spot on the prestigious ASP World Junior Tour at Trigg Point in Western Australia at the Chill Pro Junior. The next stop on the ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series offers 5-Star Men’s and 3-Star Women’s points towards each surfer’s rankings and the groms will be battling tooth and nail to set themselves apart from the field.
