Medina Wins ASP PRIME SuperSurf Internacional Young Brazilian Gabriel Medina has won the ASP PRIME SuperSurf Internacional after going on an absolute rampage that included two perfect 10-point rides on the final day of competition. Medina topped veteran competitor Tom Whitaker after an unstoppable performance at Prai da Vila in Imbituba. The Brazilian victory moves Medina to No. 27 on the men’s ASP World Ranking, putting him in excellent position to join his fellow countrymen on the elite ranks at the midyear cutoff. FULL REPORT: 2011 ASP World Junior Tour With the regional ASP Pro Junior Series in full swing around the globe, the world’s best 20-and-Under surfers are in the midst of their respective campaigns to qualify for the newly-minted, three-event ASP World Junior Tour. 2011 will usher in a third event, offering a global-campaign for surfing’s most promising talent to win this year’s ASP World Junior Title. The ASP World Junior Tour will begin with the Oakley World Junior in Bali, before landing at the Arnette World Junior in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will cap off the season at the Billabong World Junior Championships in Narrabeen, Australia. The Puerto-Rican goofy-footer marched past progressive Australian Mitch Coleborn in the final after taking down several of the event’s top seeds at the lefthand pointbreak of Playa Camaron, which lies in Mazatlan in Sinaloa, Mexico to take his first major ASP victory.
