After a week of lay days at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover, the ASP Top 34 launched back into action, plowing through Rounds 2 and 3 at Snapper Rocks with several up-and-comers asserting themselves as a force to be reckoned with alongside surfing’s heavyweights. Roxy Pro Gold Coast is ON The ASP Top 17 have been putting on a show at Snapper Rocks at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover, which runs in conjunction with the men’s Quiksilver Pro. 2011 rookie Tyler Wright has been in lethal form in her first official event on the women’s elite stage while reigning four-time ASP Women’s World Champ Steph Gilmore returned to life with an impressive Round 3 performance after a sluggish start to the event. With the Quarterfinalists having been decided, there’s a good chance a Roxy Pro Champion could be decided as early as today! WATCH IT LIVE! Inside Look at the ASP Head Judge by ASL The ASP International Judging Panel is comprised of the keenest eyes in the surfing world. With the unparalleled ability to distinguish “good surfing” from “great surfing” these champions of the sport soldier from event to event, putting in the longest hours, making the toughest calls and, ultimately, determining the undisputed ASP World Champion. Victoria’s Richard Porta sits at the head of the judging table this year and Australia’s Surfing Life (ASL) magazine caught up with the shot-caller to pick the brain of the man who wields the unholy power of scoring the world’s best surfing. Alejo’s African Journey on SURFING Alejo Muniz (BRA), 20, current ASP Dream Tour rookie and the youngest competitor among the Top 34, has emerged as a leader amidst the hotbed of rising South American talent that is currently making noise throughout the surfing world. Before the young Brazilian charged full throttle into his first year on the major leagues, Muniz took a little time to clear his mind and picked the empty lineups of West Africa as his destination of choice. SURFING Magazine recently posted this video of Muniz’s impressive aerial assault on the rippable African lineup. WATCH THE VIDEO: Gudauskas Bros Light Up the Goldie While the world’s best surfers endured six lay days before getting back to Quiksilver Pro Action, the Gudauskas brothers took their California froth across the Pacific to light up Snapper Rocks and D’Bah. ASP World Title campaigner Patrick (USA), 25, and his twin brother Dane have been terrorizing the Gold Coast and beyond, and have documented all the action via their blog, The3Tree.com.
