G'day Fulton, The "flashpacker" travel label is still being kicked around and last year's Is Flashpacking Killing The Art Of Backpacking? created quite a debate about it all. Most RTW travelers fall a little closer into the flashpacker camp than other travelers, as it's nice to be connected to friends and family, blog or even work remotely during long-term travel. A little different than a quick media-free weekend trip.
So whether you're hosteling or 'hoteling', an important part of planning your trip is investing in the right tech gear. Bringing an iPod on a trip has been de rigeur for years now, but more RTW travelers are starting to take the multi-tools of tech -- smartphones (iPhone, Blackberry, or Android), which would have been considered a luxury not too many years ago. But if you're planning on blogging or working on the road, you might also want to take a netbook. Travel Gear Blog has researched some of the best netbooks for traveling, recommended over a standard laptop for the size and price.
